Candle characteristics
What kind of wax and wicks do you use?
Step into Scents customizes different wax blends that are 100% vegan. We use a variety of soy, beeswax, coconut oil, and apricot waxes, just to name a few. We look for characteristics of: trusted, clean, paraffin and paraben free ingredients. These quality ingredients offer benefits such as amazing scent throw, creamy surfaces, a consistent burn, and have a longer burn time.
Step into Scents only uses wooden wicks. Wooden wicks are more sustainable than cotton wicks, as thousands of wicks can be obtained from a single tree reducing our carbon footprint. They give off a pleasing sense of a fireplace crackling and burning. Other benefits include: even burn, produce less soot for a cleaner burn, and distribute fragrance further.
Why do I have to burn my candle for at least 2-4 hours?
Step into Scents recommends burning our candles 2-4 hours for the benefit of allowing the wax to melt from edge to edge of the container; this creates a memory ring the candle needs to preserve its lifespan. If a candle is not burned long enough to allow the wax to melt, it will create a smaller memory ring that results in an effect called “tunneling.”
Recommended time to burn a candle is approximately an hour per inch in diameter of the container. For example, if the container is 3 inches in diameter, you should burn the candle for 3 hours.
Why wont my candle stay lit?
There could be a few reasons why your wooden wick candle won't stay lit. First, make sure to trim the wick to 1/8 inch before lighting. Also, ensure that the candle has a full melt pool before extinguishing. If the wick is still having trouble staying lit, it could be due to drafty conditions or it's not being lit from the bottom. Try moving the candle to a less drafty location or try lighting the wick at the base where the wick meets the wax.
If the candle still wont light, please email our customer service at Stepin2scents@gmail.com or text our support chat located on our website.
Why does my candle look like its “frosty”?
This is an all natural and pure characteristic of soy wax. Frosting has no effect on how a candle preforms.
Do your candles clean the air?
Yes, we recommend taking advantage of our beeswax product line. Beeswax candles are hypo-allergenic and can improve air quality. They burn with little to no smoke and clean the air surrounding them. Made from a renewable resource, beeswax is also biodegradable, making it a healthy choice for the environment too.
Candles Safety
Is it bad to keep candles lit all day?
Never leave a candle unattended for any length of time. U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission discovered that 85% of candle fires could have been avoided by using basic safety guidelines.
Please check out these guidelines here: Fire Safety & Candles - National Candle Association
Do I really need to trim the wick even if it’s a wood wick?
Just like cotton wicks, wooden wicks need to be trimmed to function at its best. This allows the wax to travel up the wick properly and give you a sustainable scent throw. Leaving a wick too long creates a larger flame, which leads to larger melt pool and gives the candle more fuel. The large amount of fuel can lead to fire.
Why doesn’t my candle burn all the way to the bottom?
This is purely a safety issue, especially with glass containers. Glass gets hot on the bottom as the wick nears the base. It can cause cracking, breaking, or damage underneath the glass. We use tin containers to lessen the dangers; however, the container still gets hot to the touch. We also recommend burning all candles on heat resistant surfaces away from anything that could be flammable or within reach.
